My shift from “Plume d’Auré” to “a Scandinavian Slow Life”… how to start… so long time and so much to say. For almost ten years, this little corner of the internet has been my creative bubble. In 2015, fueled by the excitement of starting a new life in Sweden, “Plume d’Auré” came to life as both a blog (the one you’re reading now) and an Instagram account. It quickly became my trusted companion—a space where words and experiences intertwined, gradually evolving into something far greater. It became a place where I could channel my love for writing and creativity, sharing everything from reflections on expat life to beauty tips, fashion moments, and product reviews. It was a beautiful journey of self-discovery, new adventures, and the joy of connecting with so many of you along the way.
But as with all things in life, change is inevitable.
Welcome to a Scandinavian slow life (aScandiSlowLife)
When I became a mom in 2020, life naturally shifted. I found myself with less time to blog and create content like I used to. Instagram became more of a quiet place, a visual diary where I would occasionally share snippets of my weekends and moments that felt significant to me. Slowly, without even realizing it, it all drifted into the background.
Yet, over the past few months, something stirred within me. It’s a feeling that many creators know all too well—the quiet return of inspiration, like a long-lost friend knocking at your door, asking to come inside. I began to ask myself, “What truly makes me happy? What is it that I want to share with the world now?” The answer came slowly but surely: nature, serenity, and the beauty of simple, everyday moments.
So, welcome to the new chapter of this journey: A Scandinavian Slow Life (aScandiSlowLife on Instagram). So far the blog’s design doesn’t reflect yet those changes but I’m planning to write way more about wellness, wellbeing, Scandinavian life topics in the upcoming months and years.
In this space, I hope to capture the quiet yet immense beauty of everyday life here in the Nordic region. From the soothing presence of nature to the delicate details that make life feel special, I want to share moments that bring calm and reflection—moments that make you pause, breathe, and smile. Think of it as a love letter to the slow life, inspired by the tranquility of Scandinavian living and my deep appreciation for the little things that often go unnoticed.
Here, you’ll find reflections of the Nordic landscape I’ve come to love so deeply: serene lakes, endless forests, the simple joys of everyday life. I’ll share with you the quiet beauty of living slowly, the moments that bring peace, and the joy in being present to what is, right here, right now.
Thank you for being here with me—whether you’ve walked with me for years or just stumbled upon this space. I hope you’ll find the same serenity and quiet joy in aScandiSlowLife that I do. Let’s slow down together and rediscover the beauty of the world around us, one gentle moment at a time.
Why Scandinavian slow life is such an inspiration
In an age where speed is the norm, my expatriation in Sweden has offered me a refreshing and much-needed change with its natural embrace of slowness. The country’s beautiful landscapes, simple design, and emphasis on balance showed me just how much value there is in taking things slow.
One of the concepts I fell in love with is the Swedish idea of friluftsliv, or “open-air living.” People here grow up close to nature—it’s part of their everyday life. I see it with my daughter, who spends hours outside in kindergarten, no matter the season. Whether I’m hiking in the forest, admiring the calm of a nearby lake, enjoying a picnic in the park, or tending to my garden, these simple moments invite presence, grounding, and deep appreciation.
Seasonal living also plays a beautiful role in the Scandinavian lifestyle. Winter brings with it mys—the art of coziness. Candlelight, soft blankets, warm drinks, twinkling Christmas lights—it’s a season of inwardness and togetherness. It transforms the long, dark months into something warm and full of charm.
Then comes summer, with its nearly endless days. Many Swedes retreat to their sommarstuga (summer cottage) to reconnect with nature, unwind, and recharge. It’s not just a tradition—it’s a rhythm of life that honors rest and simplicity.
And of course, there’s the incredible value placed on work-life balance. Generous parental leave, flexible working hours, and a strong cultural respect for personal time all help support a slower, more intentional way of living—one where family, health, and nature are prioritized.
